Crafting Personalized Culinary Experiences in Southern Utah
Since its inception in 2016, Ala Chelle Catering has been dedicated to delivering personalized, memorable culinary experiences throughout Southern Utah. Founded by Mechelle Woodbury, the company offers customized menus that cater to individual tastes and dietary needs. While many catering companies provide standard menus, Ala Chelle Catering thrives on creativity and flexibility.
“We start with a foundational menu but don’t limit ourselves to it,” said Woodbury. “Our goal is to craft dishes that align with our client’s specific visions and preferences, allowing us to think outside the box and express our culinary creativity.”
For Woodbury, food is more than sustenance; it’s a language of love and joy. “Food is central to almost every occasion, from weddings to funerals, and everything in between,” she said. “Bringing a smile to someone’s face through our food makes my heart full. Our aim is to evoke the same warmth and comfort that comes from a cherished family recipe.”
Woodbury left a secure state job for full-time catering—a significant leap. “After several people contacted me about catering small family gatherings, I began to realize my passion for cooking and feeding people could benefit my community,” she said. “Believing in myself and my abilities was the first hurdle. Building a commercial kitchen from scratch and finding dedicated employees were also immense challenges.”
Despite these obstacles, Ala Chelle Catering has flourished, earning several regional awards and experiencing consistent growth in sales and clientele.
Woodbury said the SBDC has been instrumental in Ala Chelle Catering’s success. “I have had the pleasure of being mentored by several counselors – from both the SBDC and the Women’s Business Center – who provided the guidance and tools necessary to achieve my goals,” she said. “Mentors like Debbie Drake and Joni Anderson have supported me through highs and lows, teaching me to find answers and build confidence.”
This support has empowered Woodbury to mentor other women-owned businesses, sharing her experiences and lessons learned.
Woodbury encouraged those looking to start a business to follow their hearts, conduct thorough research, and believe in themselves. “Don’t be afraid to seek help and guidance,” she advised. “Remember, ‘Good is the enemy of great.’ Keep striving and pushing to reach your greatness.”
