Gina and Tony Duffy
Feeling burned out from living a hectic lifestyle in Chicago, Gina and Tony Duffy relocated to the mountains of Northern Utah to do more of the activities they loved. Reflecting on the move Gina said, “after our last snowboard vacation, we uprooted our lives and moved next to Powder Mountain Utah to have instant access to the sports that nourished our soul. I thought if I could make that crazy move to live where I vacationed, what else was possible?”

While resting on “inspiration rock” overlooking the Ogden Valley, Gina realized what life had been preparing her for in the forthcoming launch of her company, Sheshreds.co. Along with co-founder and husband, Tony, Sheshreds.co was created as an apparel, gear and inspiration company founded by and for female athletes. Gina realized there was a significant gap in the marketplace for women in action sports fashion, and established the company as the industry’s signature brand advocating the female adventure athlete. “Females are breaking down barriers across these sport disciplines at the highest levels of competition and a ravenous female youth culture is emerging,” Gina affirmed.

The Duffy’s proved that anything was in fact possible with the birth and growth of Sheshreds.co. While they have experienced significant progress bootstrapping the business, having enough working capital to do everything they envisioned has been the greatest challenge. To help in these efforts, the Duffy’s were introduced to the Ogden Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at a speaking engagement at Weber State University in 2014. While working with SBDC counselors and attending one of its moniker workshops, “Meet the Money People,” the Duffy’s were introduced to a local lending institution that provided a game-changing SBA loan.

In Gina and Tony’s case, the introductions and assistance in obtaining capital have had a profound influence in the company’s progression. “The introductions and impact to our network expand as our engagement with the SBDC continues,” Gina stated.

Gina confirms the greatest achievement thus far has been watching girls and women make the Sheshreds.co brand their own. They have worked hard to create an international network of brand ambassadors and sponsored athletes. The company has quickly emerged as a leader within this movement, and Gina and Tony are having the time of their lives. “Knowing you are contributing, inspiring, creating jobs and catalyzing thought on your own terms is the best part,” said Gina.
