Secret to Success:

"Secret to business success is following through on commitments."
Mao & Doug Urie

Mac Urie was introduced to the Cedar City Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in 2010 when he enrolled in FastTrac, a SBDC course for entrepreneurs looking to start or grow a business.   Subsequent to the class, Urie utilized the SBDC to connect with students in the Masters of Business Administration (MBA) program at Southern Utah University as a resource for his company, Urieco Construction Inc.  Through the SBDC’s outreach, Urie received a number of business recommendations from the MBA students to increase opportunities for national trade, increase revenue and enhance the company’s business practices.

In early 2011, Urie and his father Doug became interested in a potential franchise opportunity with a company called Delta Disaster Services.  To assess the potential to franchise, Urie contacted the SBDC for some initial guidance and counseling with SBDC consultants Craig Isom and Joni Anderson.

The counseling sessions at the SBDC provided Urie with critical information about the disaster restoration industry including:  startup costs, competing businesses, market opportunities and more.  Isom and Anderson also helped Urie create company structures to meet franchising requirements, as well as create initial financial projections.  The SBDC also helped Urie and his father develop a list of businesses in the area that would facilitate disaster services for the company’s successful launch.

On January 3 2012, after a year of planning and preparation alongside the SBDC, Urie and his father opened Delta Disaster Services of Southern Utah–a full service restoration business in Cedar City.  For the opening, Urie hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house for the public to view the new facility and meet the team.

Delta Disaster Services of Southern Utah is a critical resource for Cedar City–providing the community with the essential services for disaster recovery and emergency services for water and fire damage repair, mold remediation, asbestos abatement and more.  The Cedar City SBDC congratulates Urie and his father for the successful launch of Delta Disaster Services and looks forward to a continued partnership as the business grows.
