A small business in Moab is making waves with its distinctive approach to coffee and quick bites. From an array of espresso-based coffees to customized sandwiches, Café Italiano is redefining the grab-and-go experience with a focus on quality and customer satisfaction. What began in a small trailer on Main Street has expanded to a boutique hotel that sells niche coffees and breakfasts every day. Owner Huseyin Deniz hopes for further expansions in the future. 

“We believe in offering more than just a cup of coffee,” he says. “It’s about crafting an experience for our guests. We hope in addition to our organic product and barista culture, our guest-friendly approach will make every visit a memorable one.”

Café Italiano prides itself in not only providing a unique culinary experience but also contributing positively to the community. 

“Our business’s success is not only measured in financial terms but also in the positive impact it has on the community, fostering an awareness of environmental sustainability and the beauty of the surrounding national parks,” he says.

Reflecting on the journey, Deniz emphasizes the importance of seeking guidance, particularly from the Small Business Development Center. 

“Before you make your dreams become reality, discuss every aspect of your business with the SBDC,” he advises. “They understand the needs of your business and can help you get the most recent information about your region.”

Deniz says Meghan McFall, the SBDC counselor, played a pivotal role in providing business planning support, demographic analysis of the destination, and advice on the startup business model.

“We started with a modest investment of around $50,000, and with the guidance and support of the SBDC network, we hope to expand statewide and then to a national level.”

With their unique coffee concept and a passion for providing a memorable experience, this business has not only carved a niche in the market but is also brewing success, one cup at a time.
