Darci Brown established Esteem Academy of Beauty in 2014 to train hairstylists, cosmetologists, and estheticians. Brown’s goal is to position her business as the premier industry leader through her knowledge, skills and confidence.
After working 30 years as a hairstylist, Brown is known for delighting customers with her commitment to beauty and style. She has been a licensed instructor for 9 years and has found success and satisfaction training future beauty professionals. She feels that her work is more than just a career, it is her passion. Brown has traveled all over the country teaching and presenting to salons and schools the craft of hair design.
Brown says, “the secret to our success is being open-minded, having good mentors and surrounding ourselves with a good team.” Brown recommends that other small businesses meet with the Small Business Development Center (SBDC).
Brown approached Zion’s Bank, to inquire about a business loan. She met with Chantelle Chase, Vice President of the branch. Chase suggested that Brown talk with Andrew Willis, Director of the Kaysville SBDC about a business plan. “Willis’ enthusiasm and knowledge helped me to believe that I really could do it. The SBDC knew what the bank needed and had the expertise to get it done.” The SBDC helped during the concept development, business planning and financing stages of her business. They also helped her navigate through the loan presentation and approval process.
Willis says, “Darci is a great client to work with. She was dedicated to starting her business and she is now focused on growing her business to have the maximum impact on the industry. She knows her customers very well and understands how to create unique value for them. She listens carefully and works hard to achieve her goals.”
