  • Market Research

Consumer Expenditure Reports  (view reports)

These provide consumer expenditures by category for various communities in the six-county region.  Both a "5-mile radius" and a "25-mile radius" report is available for each town listed.  We can, of course, provide variations of these reports and additional geographic regions anywhere in the country.

Tapestry Segmentation Information (Try it out by zip code)

Tapestry segmentation provides an accurate, detailed description of America's neighborhoods—U.S. residential areas are divided into 67 distinctive segments based on their socioeconomic and demographic composition.  This type of information is often very pertinent for

strategic decision making with regard to consumer markets.

  • Strategic Growth

The Economic Gardening program gives qualifying Utah SBDC client businesses access to a dedicated team of highly trained professional research specialists certified by the Edward Lowe Foundation.  The results of an economic gardening engagment are intended to provide a company with the information they need to optimize strategic growth planning, decisions and actions.

  • Business Planning Tools

If you are ready to develop a business plan, we have several options in addition to one-on-one professional business counseling.

FastTrac business plan development workshops for either start-ups (FastTrac NewVenture) or existing businesses seeking to grow (FastTrac GrowthVenture).  FastTrac workshops are offered in a traditional face-to-face classroom setting and with the benefit of meeting and socializing with peer entrepreneurs and potential mentors.

LivePlan offers online tools that walk you step-by-step through the various phases of planning your startup or expansion.  Your work is saved at a convenient and secure online access point and secure access can be shared with others such as your SBDC counselor for easy collaboration.


  • Leadership and Management

7 Habits for Small Business Managers (learn more)
The Utah SBDC network has provided more of the world-renowned "7 Habits for Small Business Managers" training from FranklinCovey to small business owners and managers than any other network in the country.  This program helps key individuals in small businesses to better manage themselves, lead others and unleash potential.  Join the many who have benefitted from this training adventure.

Project Management Essentials (learn more)
Working closely with the Project Managment Institute, FranklinCovey developed an exceptional approach to helping the "unofficial project manager" (translate: pretty much every business owner, manager, supervisor in todays business environment) understand and effectively apply the basic principles of working with project and with a team to get things accomplished effectively.  This training is available through our office of the Utah SBDC.

The Utah SBDC has access to various tools such as industry specific financial reports, nationally-respected financial managment training programs like ProfitMastery and useful financial analysis tools.

Small business owners are often unfamiliar with many of the programs available to help them grow.  Many of our clients, for example, have utilized the Rural Fast Track growth funding from the state of Utah's Industrial Assistance Fund.
